Chairman's Welcome
Dear Applicant,
I am pleased that you have chosen to learn more about our Residency in Radiology at Stanford. Why a letter from the Chairman? It is mainly to assure you of the support from the top for investing in the people and other resources necessary to build and sustain a great residency program. The faculty of Radiology considers the residency one of the “crown jewels” of the Department and is deeply committed to its success.
The Department is well-known for its exceptional work in advancing the frontiers of medical imaging. It is also well-known for attracting some of the most outstanding clinical radiologists in the world in virtually every subspecialty. We seek out resident applicants who want to work with the leaders in our field and who want to become one day even more outstanding than their teachers.
There is no one pedigree that we search for in filling our residency slots. We look to find individuals of deep character who will make Stanford a better place. We know that such individuals will come from different backgrounds and different schools of medicine. We hope they will ultimately become leaders in Radiology once they graduate from our Program. We are encouraged that over the past decade many of our graduates have gone on to leading positions in Radiology throughout the country.
You will experience the world of Stanford Radiology when you visit with us. I expect you will find many role models, who are very happy in their work and who will inspire you to become an exceptional radiologist should you match here. One of our newly recruited faculty observed “there are a lot of smiling faces in the Department.” The smiling faces seem to impact the Stanford medical students who are choosing Radiology as a discipline in large numbers. I take this as a very good sign that we are doing many things right.
